Biography
Mónica Lleó, degree in Sciences of the Information, branch of Image and sound, from the Complutense University of Madrid. In her artistic work she addresses questions about the photographic language itself that are intermingled with more pictorial aspects. She have always had an instinct for architecture, light, shadows, lines, but also in the second most important thing in photography, the subject, as it is an element that will provoke empathy.
She also works around politics, social and religious conflicts, life in post-conflict zones, historical memory and national identity. Lleó works in the Balkans, predominantly Bosnia I Herzegovina, Serbia and Kosovo. For her, photography allows her to address issues of social importance and to give voice to all the sides in the conflicts. She photographs people’s stories and their pain, no matter what side of the conflict and history they are on or to witch religion, color, etc. they belong.
